Still with unhappiness, the New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora took part in the team’s offseason workout on Thursday. But his attitude on his role for the next season did not seem changed. It could be guessed from his refusal to comment on the matter.
With a lingering hip injury, Umenyiora has insisted that he wants the starting job, otherwise he would like to retire or put on another team’s NFL jersey through a trade. The seven-year veteran upset general manager Jerry Reese and coach Tom Coughlin by wondering aloud whether he had played his final game as a Giant and saying he wanted to be guaranteed a starting job, which Coughlin refused to do.
Starting 11 games last season, Umenyiora had 45 tackles and a team high seven sacks. However, he missed the entire 2008 season after suffering a major injury to his left knee in a preseason game against the New York Jets. Although he insisted all last season that the surgically repaired knee caused no more problems, it’s just reasonable for the team to concern with his physical condition.

A coin will decide Jets or Giants play first game in new stadium
The new Meadowlands Stadium is ready to hold the first regular-season game of the 2010 season, but the NFL has not decided which team of the two in the same New York City to play that game in that new stadium. They will have the idea after tossing a coin in a few days.
According to an announcement on the website of the New York Jets, they will flip a coin with the Giants to determine which team will host the first regular-season game at their new 82,500-seat, $1.6 billion stadium this season. Both teams have expressed to the NFL their desire to play the opening game there, so it’s a hard decision to make but there is a simple way to solve it: coin toss.
The competition for the first use of the new stadium will possibly the only competition between to the two New York teams as it’s scheduled that the teams do not play each other in the regular season this year, so New York NFL fans will not have to decide which team’s NFL jerseys to put on anytime when there is a game involving a New York team.

Giants may not promise DE Umenyiora starting job
According to head coach Tom Coughlin, the New York Giants are not planning to ensure two-time Pro Bowl defensive end Osi Umenyiora a starting job even though Umenyiora threatens to take off Giants jersey once and for all.
Speaking at the NFL combine on Friday, Coughlin said he has talked with Umenyiora since the season ended, but he was also a little disappointed the disgruntled veteran said he wanted to either be traded or retire if he does not start next season.
“He’s going to come in and work hard to establish that position,” Coughlin said “He’s a big part of our team, he certainly is a gifted, gifted football player.” But an ensured starting job? “I don’t know how you do that,” Coughlin said. “Our field is a field and competition is good; just like we tell to everybody, ‘Go earn it.”’
The six-year veteran has spent all of his first six seasons with the Giants but missed the entire 2008 season after a major knee injury in the preseason. Returning for the 2009 season, he lost the starting job to Mathias Kiwanuka in the middle of regular season and had little playing time in the final weeks.

Cowboys tackle Adams may be fined again for foul playing
The NFL is now reviewing what happened between the Dallas Cowboys tackle Flozell Adams and New York Giants defensive end Justin Tuck to decide whether to give Adams fine or even suspension.
Video clearly shows Adams shoving Tuck in the back at the end of the first half in New York’s 31-24 victory Sunday when there was a small melee between players wearing both teams’ NFL jerseys on the New York sideline. Adams was given a personal foul penalty but no yardage was marked off against Dallas at the start of the second half.
It seemed that there is something wrong with the co-existence of Adams and Tuck this season. In Week 2, Adams also had some trouble with Tuck and was fined by the league $12, 500.

Giants WR Manningham is questionable for Sunday game after missing practice
For hurting the shoulder during Thursday practice, the New York Giants receiver Mario Manningham was held out of Friday’s practice and listed questionable for Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Manningham hurt the shoulder on the final play of practice on Thursday and was held out of the team’s final workout for Sunday’s game as a precaution.
“They thought it was better if he just not work today,” Coach Tom Coughlin said. “So I’m going to list him as questionable, but hopefully he will make it.”
Manningham said that he was all right to play on Sunday. Having started six of seven games this season, the receiver has caught 28 passes for 439 yards and four touchdowns. The Giants would be glad if he could play in good condition on Sunday. But if he could not, they will have to choose a starter from Domenik Hixon and Hakeem Nicks, who is in his first year of wearing NFL jersey and has caught touchdowns in four straight games.

Giants RB Bradshaw had his ankle examined in North Carolina
After being kept out of practice most of the season, the New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw skipped another practice on Wednesday and traveled to North Carolina to have his bothersome right ankle examined by specialist Dr. Robert Anderson.
He was not the only player wearing Giants jerseys to miss the practice. Middle linebacker Antonio Pierce and backup cornerback Kevin Dockery were not practicing on the field either. Pierce had a sore ankle and Dockery was excused for personal reasons.
Although Bradshaw has rushed for 455 yards this season despite the injury, he just wanted to stop it from bothering him. Because of the injury, he has missed Wednesday and Thursday practice most weeks while wearing a boot to protect both his sore right ankle and foot.

Giants backup QB Carr gets ready to start as Manning skipped another practice
On Thursday, the New York Giants starting quarterback Eli Manning missed his second straight practice since being hurt last Sunday in a win over the Kansas City Chiefs. And with two days left before Sunday’s game, Manning’s backup David Carr got ready to start against the Oakland Raiders, even though the team has not decided on whether to have Manning play.
After the practice, Coach Tom Coughlin only said that Manning’s heel was feeling better and no decision would be made until Sunday. But Carr, the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2002 was not worried. He was confident that he would be the starter, and if not, nothing to lose. As previous reports said that Manning would decide not to play Sunday if he could not help the team, it is very likely Carr will be given the chance of starting his first game with the Giants. He last started a game in 2007 for the Carolina Panthers against the New Orleans Saints, with 10 for 22 for 95 yards passing and two interceptions.
Since joining the Giants and becoming Manning’s backup last season, Carr has been mostly an understudy and he appeared in only three games last season and two this year without playing time. Comparing to Manning, the eight-year veteran knows the Giants offense as well but might be less familiar with some of its subtleties than Manning. Anyway, Manning has been the team’s starting quarterback for about five years.

Giants RB Bradshaw is in hope of larger role
The New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw is in hope that he will have a larger role this season, because he feels fully recovered from the calf strain preventing him from reaching top speed last year.
Bradshaw said that he was really bothered by the injury last year, but he is feeling compeletly healthy now and will catch chance to play important role this season.
Bradshaw's injury was perhaps one of the reasons why the Giants chose Derrick Ward rather than him last year. They just neglected Bradshaw even though he had an impressive postseason performance in the previous winter.
Fortunately, that was all past. Bradshaw is now the No.2 on the team’s depth chart. He has improved his pass blocking and his knowledge of the offense and will likely become one of the top No.2 backs.
